Julio J. Fonseca
Julio J. Fonseca is a Doctoral Extern at the Capital Center for Psychotherapy and Wellness and a Psy.D. student in Clinical Psychology at The George Washington University. He provides psychotherapy in both English and Spanish, with a focus on culturally responsive and affirming care.
Julio is LGBTQ+ affirming, and his clinical interests center on supporting LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly those navigating trauma, identity development, and minority stress. He has worked with a diverse caseload at the GW Center Clinic and co-led an LGBTQ+ Process Group. His previous training includes roles at the University of the District of Columbia Counseling and Wellness Center and Joseph Gorin, Psy.D. & Associates, where he conducted intake assessments and neuropsychological evaluations.
In addition to his clinical work, Julio brings nearly three decades of experience in advocacy and community engagement, with a longstanding commitment to mental health education and HIV-related work. Nationally recognized for his leadership and storytelling as a Latino advocate, he grounds his clinical approach in cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and a deep dedication to supporting individuals navigating complex life experiences.

He believes in honoring each individual’s cultural, social, and personal identity while working together to foster healing, resilience, and empowerment. Through a trauma-informed, culturally humble lens, Julio strives to help clients navigate life’s challenges with courage and authenticity.
