Julio J. Fonseca

Julio J. Fonseca (he/el), is a Doctoral Extern at the Capital Center for Psychotherapy and Wellness and a Psy.D. student in Clinical Psychology at The George Washington University, where he earned his Master of Psychology (M. Psy.) in August 2025. He provides psychotherapy in both English and Spanish, grounding his work in culturally responsive care.

Julio works with clients from varied backgrounds, with a particular focus on supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and Latinx and immigrant communities navigating trauma, identity development, and minority stress. At the GW Center Clinic, he carried a broad caseload, co-led an LGBTQ+ Process Group, and facilitated intake and assessment services. His previous training includes roles at the University of the District of Columbia Counseling and Wellness Center and Joseph Gorin, Psy.D. & Associates, where he conducted intake assessments and neuropsychological evaluations in both English and Spanish. He also provides trauma-informed therapy through the Asylum Clinic in partnership with the GW Center Clinic, working with individuals from diverse, global backgrounds.

In addition to his clinical training, Julio brings nearly three decades of advocacy and leadership in mental health and HIV-related work. Nationally recognized for his community engagement, leadership, and storytelling as a Latino advocate, he grounds his clinical approach in cultural humility, trauma-informed practice, and a deep dedication to supporting individuals navigating complex life experiences.

He believes in honoring each individual’s cultural, social, and personal identity while working together to foster healing, resilience, and empowerment. Through a trauma-informed, culturally humble lens, Julio strives to help clients navigate life’s challenges with courage and authenticity.
